Programme

Haworth Hodgkinson: Nine Bronzes (2019)

Intuitive Music Aberdeen is pleased to return for another lunchtime recital at St Andrew's Cathedral.

In today's concert we present the world premiere performance of Nine Bronzes, a piece by Haworth Hodgkinson developed in collaboration with the members of Intuitive Music Aberdeen.

Nine Bronzes takes both title and inspiration from a set of instruments, the nine assorted gongs and tam-tams that Haworth Hodgkinson has collected over the years. These instruments by their nature produce complex sounds containing many different pitches, often difficult to reconcile with conventional equal tempered tuning. The music is based on the pitches that we could hear in the instruments during rehearsals, played on tenor recorder, keyboard and bass guitar, accompanied by the gongs and tam-tams themselves, as well as electronic sounds made from recordings of the nine bronzes.

Performers

Haworth Hodgkinson (recorder, percussion, fixed media)

Mandy Macdonald (keyboard)

Colin Edwards (bass guitar)
